What customers say?

“ Fantastic course. Best greens I have played on in years. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Martin is a gem. ”

“ I played at Santa Marina on Monday, June 23rd. What can I say? The welcome was professional, but a bit cold. I rented both the cart and the bag. Nothing to complain about the cart. As for the bag, I think the clubs, woods, and irons were about my age (ironic, but it gives you an idea, considering I'm 70). No one asked me my size. The grips were so worn they couldn't be seen. Certainly not up to the standard of a course that bears such a prestigious and world-famous name. That said, on the other hand, the green fees are beautiful and challenging, well-maintained, and the fairways are beautiful and quite steep given the terrain. Nothing to complain about. The course is challenging, but intriguing. The restaurant staff were very friendly. Best regards. ”

“ I'm a member of this club so review is naturally biased. :) A challenging course for all handicaps (I manage to hack my way around with a 36 hcp). The routing has recently changes where you now start at the old 10th hole. The first 9 are exceptionally beautiful with plenty of hazards to contend with. The back nine are quite challenging in a very hilly setting. Electric cart or buggy recommended if you are not used to hilly terrain. Proshop, driving range and club house are excellent. Friendly staff and excellent Pro available for classes. ”

“ A spectacular, well-maintained course where I take my friends from Tenerife every year to play in the Celis tournament. The course is unbeatable, the greens are PGA-quality. And finishing off with a drink and a meal in that magnificent restaurant after the round is priceless. ”

- ROBERTO MARIA CANTERO -

“ Wow, I guess that this is what the game is like in heaven! I have never played a course in condition as fine as this. The greens are very quick, and deserve respect as they have settled in since first constructed, with some having a marginal amount of level area, especially on the return 9 holes. Positional play is key on the return, as well as executional skill. One of my most treasured courses ever, thank you Snr. Alonso for arranging my view of paradise, I hope I did it justice with my restricted ability. ”

- Green Gecko -

“ The course is simply spectacular. The greens are like carpets, without a single pitch or bald spot, fast but playable, and a constant challenge to reach. The fairways are in great condition, with some areas due to low water that need drainage. This course is incredibly tough in the summer. It's very steep on the second round, with blind shots and shifting fairways. There's plenty of water and a wooded area, so you have to be very straight. The food in the restaurant is superb. On the porch area, there are set meals, and in the main house, there's a daily menu. You must return; it's a wonderful course. ”

“ Best course I've ever played (was a few years ago now, 2021 played it several times). Makes you think all the way round. Martín gives the best service I've seen at a golf course, along with his friendly staff. SPT Business is about a 20 handicapper - delighted with a 103 (45 FORTY-FIVE putts) - I commented on how fast the greens were to Martin and a visiting former pro David Steele (check out his golf marathon) and they just laughed saying they were playing slow that week....but really...Go play this course. The views are spectacular as is the course at reasonable price. Can't imagine how much fun it is in the wind..bring your A-game or your A-don't care ”

“ Was looking for a course near to Santander (For return ferry trip to UK) Found this gem whilst researching and decided to stop over in San Vincente de la Barquera.(About 10 minute drive to course) The course was designed by the great ‘Seve’ and as I am old enough to remember (and watch) him in his prime, it sealed the deal to go & play there. (Couldn’t get a game at Pedrena!) There is a security gate at the entrance and you get the sense that you are entering a select Golf Club! I had booked via an online website (Paid 70 euro, compared to advertised 90 euro via the Club website) I paid 16 euro for an electric trolley in the Pro shop, which was manned by a very friendly & helpful assistant. He gave me tokens for the practice area and directed me to where I needed to go. The practice ground is lovely & there is a short game area and a putting green prior to the walk to the 1st tee. My Yardage GPS gadget showed the 10th as the 1st hole (Which is a lovely opening Par 5) and the following 8 holes are very pleasing (Including Holes 4 to 6, which are named ‘Amen corner’) The 9th is a lovely hole back to the Clubhouse and I imagine, this was the original 18th (As per my yardage GPS!) The back 9 holes are far more hilly and most people would struggle to walk it, without some electrical assistance! The condition of the course was excellent and the Green’s were in Fantastic condition and consistently true. The 18th is a Par 3, which isn’t a great closing hole (IMO) but I would definitely like to play the course again (A few blind T shots, mean a second trip is necessary!) Stopped for some Lunch and a drink after playing, in the quaint clubhouse. Looks like it was an old house, which has been refurbished to a very high standard (Photos in bar) and has kept a lot of the old features. The staff were all very pleasant and friendly (There seemed to be more staff than customer’s) and the pricing wasn’t too painful. Overall, I would definitely recommend playing Santa Marina G.C and I only don’t give it a 5 star rating, because the back 9 doesn’t match the front 9. I look forward to another opportunity to play again. Keep up the good work! ”
